Elderberry Syrup AKA MAGIC
You guys. It is my least favorite time of year in sickness land... WINTER! Let's just be real that as soon as school starts it is just everywhere... you've got croup, colds, RSV (holla to the momma's with an infant), tummy bugs (we will totally do a post on that, I just need the Lord to get my emotions ready... can you say PTSD?)
IT IS ENDLESS.
I feel like yes, children go to school to get educated and learn all the things that will questionably make you succeed in life... but it is also like they go to school to concoct a new breed of illness? AM I RIGHT?!
So this, the magic juice. If you have not heard of it, well you can just leave your praises in the comments because this is a game changer. In the great brown state of Texas, we create allergens that you never knew you had! This my friend not only cares for the allergies with honey but it cares for your immune system as a whole
Who can take this?
We started to use Elderberry right after my 2 year old turned 1 year. Now it is a daily part of our regiment, in that she gets her Elderberry in her water (easy score for her thinking it is 'Juice'!)
This gem helps your body to literally fight disease. Elderberries are booming with vitamins A & C, which are crucial in helping the body maintain optimal health. Plus, the bioflavonoids in elderberry syrup boost the body's immune system by increasing antioxidant levels and viruses that damage cell walls.
Treats Respiratory Ailments
FIGHT THAT COLD. Elderberry syrup makes colds and other upper respiratory symptoms more tolerable by reducing mucous secretions. Also, elderberries may fight swelling of the respiratory passages, which means less discomfort and trouble breathing and soothe a cough.
Improves Flu Symptoms
"Decrease the length and severity of your flu symptoms. Common flu symptoms like fever, chills, sore throat, muscle aches and fatigue may go away faster if you take elderberry syrup as recommended on the bottle. According to a study in the Journal of International Medical Research, patients given elderberry syrup recovered an average of 4 days faster from the flu than those not taking the supplement. Elderberries have even been shown in the labs to help prevent swine and avian flu strains." (livestrong.com)
How often do we take this? Is it just when we feel symptoms?
+ Regular dose is 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp for kids and 1/2 Tbsp to 1 Tbsp for adults
+ If an illness does strike, take the normal dose every 2-3 hours instead of once a day until symptoms disappear
WHERE DO I GET THIS MAGIC?

Just a few words on the alternative (Tamiflu)…
“Back in 2008, the FDA started reviewing reports of abnormal behavior and disturbing brain effects in more than 1,800 children who had taken Tamiflu. The symptoms included convulsions, delirium and delusions. In Japan, five deaths were reported in children under 16 as a result of such neurological or psychiatric problems. Seven adult deaths have also been attributed to Tamiflu, due to its neuropsychiatric effect. According to a 2009 study, more than half of children taking Tamiflu experience side effects such as nausea and nightmares. Other more rare and bizarre side effects have also been reported, such as the case of a 19-year old British girl who developed toxic epidermal necrolysis and blindness after taking Tamiflu last year.” (Mercola.com)
